Hi! just purchased Sumu and I'm unable to make MPE work at all...
I enabled MPE mode in the default patch, using it under both Bitwig 6.1 and Live 12.4.6 (MacOS 27.0.1). I draw some MPE curves on the note editor (I tried timbre and pressure in Bitwig, pressure in Live) but I'm not receiving any data on any MPE inputs (after, dx, dy) when using them with the scope or any other signal input in the patch (such as your typical filter cutoff). I added another MPE-compatible plugin and my curves immediately worked so doesn't seem DAW-related. Unfortunately I don't have any MPE controller to test it but I suppose results will be the same.
I cannot find what I may be doing wrong but thought it would be worth checking with you first!
Thank you very much!
This is a tricky one, I have all the software you mention and it's known to work with a variety of MIDI controllers. To double-check, you opened the popup menu with the [...] button in the INPUT module, and changed the "protocol" chooser to MPE?
Yes, that was first thing I checked...
Short video showing the issue https://s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/com.jarenas.resources/sumu1.mov
Not showing well in the video because of the wires mess but the scope is connected to after, dx and dy, same as filter freq.
As far as I understand, scope should show incoming MPE signals...
In Ableton I have the same behaviour. I even double checked with a Max for Live MIDI monitoring tool there and MPE notes with associated pressure were apparently correctly well-formed from the midi track, and, in any case, other MPE plugins were working fine.
BTW, I also purchased Kaivo recently (I had not worked with it yet) and MPE is working fine there, same setup/track/mpe curves, really tricky issue, yes!
I reviewed the Sumu video and it looks like you are doing everything right. Please send me an email at support@madronalabs.com. I'll try to reproduce your setup and start from your project with the automation if possible.
email sent, thanks!
