Sorry if this has been discussed many times before. I couldn't find any search function in the forums. I started playing with Kaivo and I really love the sounds I'm able to get from it. The only thing that really worries me is how much of my CPU it is claiming.

I have the latest high-end MBP model @ 2.3GHz. A lot of presets take around 40% and some, like Drink Cook Or Die with just 3 voices, even 50%. I'm using Ableton Live at 44.1kHz and I've tried processing buffers up to 512.

I think this poses some restrictions on how I could use Kaivo, especially in a live setup where you I can't record of freeze the instrument to free up resources.

I assume that if it was trivial to optimize the dsp algorithms you would have done so already, but I'm wondering if this cpu load is considered normal and if there are plans to optimize Kaivo further.

Maybe you could give some insights to why these particular patches are so cpu hungry so I can try to work my way around it when designing my own sounds.

Hi Randy,

Interesting read. It's good to know that optimisations and cpu balancing are on the way.

Today I also started playing with Aalto and I'm already hooked on that one too. I never realized that it was Buchla inspired, and was focusing on hardware over the past years, feeling disappointed by most softsynth I own. I am really happy with the creative approach in these synths.

I was using your Jitter video rendering tool about 10 years ago. You've come a long way :) Keep up the great work!

Cheers,
Thijs
