ForumsSoftware ← Ways to create custom tunings?

How would one create a custom tuning in Aalto, similar to the various microtonal presets available under the 'key' section?

I'm going to experiment with sending in various pitchbend values through Max For Live, but I'd like to know if there is a way we can create our own tunings using midi-cents.

Best,
Joey

Interesting; looks like a similar question was asked just a few posts down.

Randy, do you know where the tunings files are for Mac?

The tunings in the KEY section are all Scala-format tuning files. They are just text files, so if you look up the format you can find out how to make one. Or just copy and edit one of the existing ones to play around with it.

The files are always in the same place on Mac: Library/Audio/Presets/Madrona Labs/Scales. If you have OS X 10.8 you might have to un-hide your Library folder.

Scala itself can be found here: http://www.huygens-fokker.org/scala/
Unfortunately the Mac implementation is very messy, but if you by any chance have Linux running in VirtualBox or VMware, the Linux version is running fine.
