One solution I have used in addition to the Numerology recording, is to use Audio Hijack from Rogue Amobea. It can be set to take audio streams from any program or audio source on your Mac computer.

It also saves the files with the name of the program and date, but you can edit the tags and set all the various recording parameters, send to an external editor for further manipulation etc.
