Hi, total beginner here, sorry to everyone who has to read this. I'm using Reaper and I just downloaded the demo for Aalto. I had to manually move it to c:vstplugins to even get it to show up as an option in Reaper. Now I've got it open, which is great; it's beautiful, and I almost fainted from happiness when I saw the key selector and all the gamelan options therein. Problem: no presets, just Aalto Default. I've downloaded all the presets, they're sitting there in VST Plugins, but not showing up. Help!
Incidentally if I should not be using Reaper but instead another free or cheap DAW let me know. I really want to be using Aalto more than anything else. I paid for Sonar and hate it to hell, and that pretty much ate my DAW budget, but if you have any recommendations for a sub-$100 DAW that will work like automatically with Aalto let me know. Has to be easy to use, which Reaper seems to be.
And I'm on Windows, if that wasn't obvious.
Thanks!
The presets go into C:/AppData/Roaming which is where the installer should put them. Where did the Aalto plugin appear after you ran the installer? You said you moved it into C:/VSTPlugins but that is where the installer should have put it unless you specified a different location.
Using the installer should be easier than trying to figure out the right places for everything by hand. Make sure you are running the installer from the same user account you are launching Reaper.
Reaper should be a decent option on Windows. I use a free thing called VSTHost sometimes but only for testing plugins.
I uninstalled and then reinstalled, and everything is there. Awesome. Really appreciate the support. Seems to be working well with Rapture although there's some crunching indicating that I may have a buffering issue ... but I can probably figure that out. Thanks for the help.
