ForumsSoftware ← Virta MIDI input produces stuck notes in FL Studio

Virta version 1.0.1 (VST.64) Windows 8.1 FL Studio 12 and Sonar X3

Hello,

the problem is specific to FL Studio. If MIDI note input is sent live to virta from an external keyboard the notes/voices get stuck and sustain for ever. One can only stop it if the transport stop button get pressed twice (even if there transport is not active) like one stops an too long lasting effect or hanging MIDI notes.

Please see the example video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTFkuGpiyEU

I thought till yesterday this phenomenon also happens if MIDI notes are played from the piano roll and it is impossible to work with MIDI-controlled patches in Virta in FL Studio. But this problem with stuck notes triggered from the piano roll occours only sometimes, not always and only if Virta is fresh opened.
Only Virta has this problem, other MIDI controlled effects like MMultibandHarmonizer or Vocovee play MIDI notes as expected.

I controlled it in Sonar, there is a way to configure effects as a synth and so Virta is able to receive MIDI input. And there are no hanging notes.

The method is descibed here: http://forum.cakewalk.com/Using-a-MIDI-track-to-control-a-VST-effect-m2833740.aspx

But the better method in Sonar X3 would be to activate a MIDI input, like descibed on the end of the post with a screenshot as example. Unfortunately this menue-point does not appear in my sonar installation even if the same plugin is loaded as in the example. I wasted a lot of my time to investigate it, but if the menue point does not appear the effect it means that the plugin doesn't offer MIDI inputs.... So I can play key synths but not key effects in Sonar, because you can have either MIDI OR audio input on tracks.

An other observation is, that if I begin to play live MIDI input, Virta reacts only on every second or third note. Similar like notes are triggered in the beginning of a session from the pianoroll in FL Studio – there are then stucked notes, here Virta reacts sluggish. Only if presets are changed several times (best to "misty pips" – whatsoever) it behaves normal.

Except for this problems Virta is great so far, I'm now tinkering on the first own presets, it is really fun but so time consuming, because yes Virta is so different and potentially deep...

Regards, Stefan

There is a MIDI timing bug that shows up only on certain hosts. FL Studio is one. If you are able to set "fixed buffer size" in the DAW's audio preferences, that should be a workaround while I address this issue. Thanks for the detailed report.
