Yep! It's going to be a little while after Kaivo comes out, stay tuned.

Hmm, well I think that machine should be running more voices!

If you close the Kaivo window, does that help? It's possible there is something weird going on with graphics.

If you stop audio, does the UI become responsive?

thanks

I still can't play more than 2 voices at once without some serious breakup and the UI is highly unresponsive.

Ouch, what kind of CPU / OS are you running? 32 or 64 bit? Thanks.

Kaivo is in beta now, shipping next month. Thanks to Surachai of Trash Audio for the demo.

I am working to get it out this month. Please stay tuned for a release date.

It could be that the waveguide is at a setting where it is feeding back forever.

There is also the possibility of a plain old stuck note. I try to avoid them but with some hosts they are bound to happen. If you see this a lot please let me know what host you are using.

Thanks for the update. You see why I hesitate to dive into people's Max patches. :-)

Thanks for the feedback. I would love to do that but I have other fish to fry right now. In the meantime you can use Google search, just go to the Google and search for "site:madronalabs.com fish" for example (3 hits related to tacos, before this post!)

In other words, you send a message to one plugin, and both plugins appear to receive it?

Do you hear the change in both plugins, or simply see it?

Please email me a patch to support @ madronalabs and I will take a look.

Oh no a case of the blues... and cowboys too... I'll make a big noise about shipping Kaivo, so you can stay tuned to the mailing list for that... then shortly thereafter will follow the announcement you are waiting for.

Hola,

I am not getting an aleph from the first run. I would be excited to work with one, but I have to work full time on Kaivo at the moment anyway. So there will have to be a computer in the mix for now.

A3 is the real center. So there is a bug in the manual. Thanks for pointing this out!

Hey plusch, welcome and thanks for sharing.

The thing is, it won't be useful the way most modulators would be useful, because the sound will be interrupted---one kind of model has to be built and another one taken away. But I can see it would be handy maybe if you had a control surface and were designing patches.

Would you say those factors you mentioned or less /equally/more important than the voice amount itself in terms of cpu usage?

Er, well, it's changing every day right now--- I'm just working to make it better.

one request for the final version: sample changing / model type / body all midi controllable. On Live I am unable to access those with a midi controller, but maybe it's just a Live thing, does it work in other hosts?

This is about the menu controls just not working with MIDI right now. I will see if I can add that.

Nice. Welcome and thanks for the waves!

Different models take up different amounts of CPU. Also, low notes on the resonators take up more CPU.

I'm going to add "none" as resonator / model options so people can save CPU or test things that way.

yes

@abstractcats I have no idea what that could be. Maybe it's just related to the ungodly CPU use at present. Let's keep an eye on it in future betas.

Hi, I realize it's been quite a long time and I understand it's frustrating, so thanks for staying civil about it.

As I finish up Kaivo I'm working on some optimizations that will benefit both Kaivo and Aalto. I'm eager to roll these out to you as soon as I can. I can say with some confidence that Kaivo will be out next month and that an Aalto release will be the thing I work on full time next, if I can't sneak it out before Kaivo is done.

@forshaw What OS and CPU are you experiencing the problems on?

Randy, just wanted to throw this out there. Have you played with the Logic Audio plugin Sculpture?

Not for a long time, but I played it quite a bit when it came out.

My 'test' for doing this was setting up a random CC array to change each knob to a random position, and with Sculpture you get usable results about 1 out of every 5 'random' bursts, with Kaivo I'm getting good results about 1 out of every 2.

This is a pretty interesting idea and test, thanks for your investigation.

I certainly plan to expand the range of models, and if I don't get tubes in before release, I will do it soon. The nice thing about the "modes" setup is that I can add whatever capabilities I like later on.

It will be available for Windows?

Yes!

But when can we expect a Windows version of Aaltoreverb ;-)

I don't have a release date for this. But it won't be too hard. Feel free to remind me after Kaivo is out :-)

Any precise date for the release? Pricing?

Next month. Reasonably priced.

Thanks everyone for putting up with this bare-bones forum software we wrote. I plan to put in some work on it this year. I have many usability problems noted for later fixing, believe me.

Thanks fluorescentgrey!

  • The limiter is going to be replaced with a "real" limiter by my friend Eric and tuned to cope with what Kaivo is putting out.
  • more bodies and models are coming. And if I don't get pipes (for example) into 1.0 I will roll them out later.
  • You can turn off 'auto' on the noise module. In this mode it slews to a new random value every time it gets a trig pulse.
  • feedback is planned !
  • would love to add a visual level display but this is post 1.0

Running through a few patches I conjured up.

!!!

No apologies needed, we are all trying to figure this out together

I should probably mention what kind of feedback I'm looking for right now!

I don't care about CPU usage reports because of course it's a horrible hog now and that will get better soon.

I'm interested in feedback on the design though frankly things are pretty well nailed down at this point. If I head some idea that was super earth-shakingly awesome I could include it. But realistically, probably not until a 1.1 release.

I'm very interested in feedback on the sound! I realize that will get more possible as CPU use gets better.

If you make patches now, they should work without too much modification in the future. I will tune the levels and so forth, and may change how some of the models respond, but the existing complement of dials is not going to change.

I expect most people will wait until the next beta to get serious about making patches.

Firstly, the presets folder has to go in the USER library/audio/presets folder, not the root drive library folder as in the email.

I'm looking at the email I sent and it says to put them in the user Library.

Anyone else have only Koto, Water Koto and Dulcimer working? Try "default", does that work? Do you get sounds like the example clips?

Do other presets work if you set the res mode to metal string?

If "default" doesn't work then I'm guessing you don't have any samples loaded.
